History of SKALE Coin
SKALE (SKL) is the native utility
token of the SKALE Network, a decentralized, elastic network of Layer 1
blockchains designed to address scalability, speed, and cost issues,
particularly for the Ethereum ecosystem. Here is a timeline and key historical
points for SKALE: Founding and Early Development (2018
- 2019) 2018: Foundation: The SKALE
Network was founded by experienced tech entrepreneurs Jack O'Holleran
(CEO) and Stan Kladko (CTO). Their goal was to solve the scalability
challenges hindering decentralized applications (dApps) on Ethereum. Late
2018: Initial Funding & Testnet: SKALE Labs announced a significant
funding round, and the project planned and executed the launch of its first
TestNet in Q4 of 2018. Mainnet
Launch and Token Generation (2020)
June 2020: Mainnet Phase 1: The SKALE Network began its Mainnet rollout
in three phases. Phase 1 was a restricted launch for existing validators. September
2020: Public Sale (ICO): The SKL token had its public sale, raising capital
and distributing the coin to the broader community. The token itself is an ERC-777
token (backward compatible with ERC-20) on the Ethereum blockchain. December
2020: Mainnet Phase 3 (Open State): The network became fully open, allowing
for token transfers, staking, and delegation, and making it available to all
developers and validators. The SKL token was officially launched and
began trading. Network Upgrades and Evolution
(2022 - Present) 2022: SKALE V2 (SKALEVERSE):
SKALE announced and implemented V2, a major upgrade focused on evolving the
network from a set of siloed Layer 2 chains to a modular Layer 1/Layer 2
hybrid network of interconnected blockchains. This upgrade aimed to
optimize support for high-performance applications, including NFTs, Metaverse,
and Play-to-Earn games, with an emphasis on zero gas fees for end-users.
June 2023: Focus on Zero-Knowledge (ZK) Solutions: As the network grew
to over 20 built-in blockchains, the development team announced a new focus on
integrating zero-knowledge (zk) scaling solutions into the infrastructure, a
key development trend in the wider blockchain space. Key Characteristics of SKALE Coin (SKL) The SKL token is the native utility token of the SKALE
Network and is crucial for its operation. Its main functions are: Security
& Staking: Validators stake SKL to secure the network and run SKALE
Chains, earning rewards in return. Token holders can delegate their SKL
to validators to participate in staking and earn rewards.Payment:
Developers pay a monthly subscription fee in SKL to rent the resources of the
SKALE Chains to host their dApps. This subscription fee is distributed to
validators and delegators. Governance: SKL token holders have the
ability to vote on-chain to control the economic parameters and future upgrades
of the network.
