The history of Italy Seria A
Italy's top-tier football league,
known as Serie A, has a rich and complex history that traces back to the
late 19th century. Initially, the league was organized differently before
adopting its current format. The first organized football competition in Italy
was held in 1898, with the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) overseeing
regional tournaments. For over two decades, the championship was decided by
playoffs between the winners of these regional groups. This format was replaced
in the 1929-30 season when the modern, single-group, round-robin format of
Serie A was established, creating a national league with a system of promotion
and relegation with Serie B.A significant tradition in Italian football is the Scudetto,
or "little shield." Introduced in 1924, this badge is worn on the
jerseys of the defending champions in the following season. The term
"winning the Scudetto" is now synonymous with winning the Serie A
title.During the 1980s and 1990s, Serie A was widely considered the most
prestigious and competitive league in the world, attracting many of the globe's
top players like Diego Maradona and Marco van Basten. Most Successful Clubs
